Lowell School Partners with TDC for Strategic Rebranding

Independent school seeking to increase visibility and engagement among prospective families

Washington, DC, March 1, 2016—It was announced today by David Franek, president of The Design Channel (TDC), that Lowell School has selected the firm to conduct a comprehensive assessment of its current brand and provide recommendations for refined positioning, messaging and branded communications efforts going forward.

“Lowell School has long been at the forefront of progressive education in the D.C. area,” Franek said. “It offers a truly unique learning experience that develops young, confident individuals with in-depth thinking capabilities, social literacy, and the skills to succeed in the next stage of their education. We’re very excited about helping the Lowell brand better reflect the school’s strengths to capture the attention of families looking for a transformative education for their children.”

The initial phase of TDC’s support includes a wide-ranging discovery component that involves focus groups, phone interviews, and one-on-one discussions with various audiences within the Lowell community. These encompass current parents of students, parents of graduates, school leadership, faculty members, donor parents, and even parents of children accepted by Lowell but who ultimately attended another school. The objective is to gain a clearer understanding of how the Lowell community perceives the school’s strengths, vulnerabilities, opportunities, and standing in the context of the D.C. independent school arena.

TDC will also review Lowell’s current marketing communications assets and those of peer and aspirational independent schools in the D.C. area and around the country to identify best practices and strategic opportunities for Lowell messaging. In addition, TDC will develop a refined positioning, messaging platform, and look and feel for Lowell based on its findings and analysis.

About Lowell School

Founded in 1965, Lowell School is an independent school in the Colonial Village neighborhood of Washington D.C. that serves children age 2½ through 8th grade. The school promotes collaborative learning with an emphasis on conceptual understanding and creative, critical, and analytical thinking. Lowell’s progressive approach is rooted in the educational philosophy of Haim Ginott, a prominent 20th century child psychologist and educator, which emphasized equity between students and teachers, and honors individuality. In addition, Lowell actively incorporates diversity throughout its curriculum to prepare students for a world that calls for multicultural understanding and stewardship of one’s community and larger world.
